3 day old Avocet Chick, Baylands, Palo Alto, CA. These chicks are about the size of a ping-pong ball at this age.

Sadly, the mom of this little one and his/her 2 sibs must be a first-time mom. She was not very vigilant over these chicks, and allowed them to forage alone more than 30 feet from her. I'm afraid they will be an easy target for the gulls and hawks.

Sorry, no more room available at the top, as I framed to include the reflection.

How sweet. Neat catch Sandy. Do you have more room on top? I'm feeling the need for a tad.

Sandy,
Nice capture. I like the pinkish peach color in the reflection. Don't know what it is but it's catchy looking. I hope this little guy gets a chance to grow up. Seeing lots of little chicks all around now. I love this time of year. It's second only to Winter when there are so many species to capture. Dave

Sandy, they certainly are appealing at this age. I"m glad you caught the one leg up like that. In my experience, it's not unusual at all for these chicks to forage that distance from the parent.
