This is one from the Narrows from a few years ago that I haven't posted to NPN before. I worked on this quite a lot in PhotoShop after I returned home from that trip. The dynamic range in the raw image is very high. The trees in the background were in direct sunlight, while the rest of the scene was in the shadows. I tried a blend of two exposures, but I wasn't satisfied with the result. This is a single exposure, for which I significantly toned down the highlights in the background, tried to bring out some detail in the large boulder on the right, and emphasize the reflection of the trees and the reflected glow off the wall on the left which was the most appealing element of the composition for me. This closely portrays my recollection of the scene in my mind's eye, but I'm still not sure that it's all that it can be.

Jim: This is a great scene and I think you did really well with the processing. I even thought the thumbnail was striking. Well done.>=))>

I can appreciate how difficult it was to process this single exposure. I love the colors in the reflection.

I can see this was a very contrasty shot.
You pulled the shadows out well and the result is very pleasing. Great lines and depth.

Gives quite the feeling of being there viewing this. I think you balanced this well.
