Female half of a nest building pair. I posted the male last week. It's surprising how much bigger she is. Canon 40D w 400mm f5.6, 1/1500 sec. I'm having trouble posting a high quality image at only 200kb. Suggestions?

Good detail and headturn. Perhaps a little bright overall, but a nice view of this Cooper's. Sharon

Hi Roger,
Without knowing the details of what you are doing to get from your camera to a jpeg it's hard to say. This looks to me like you had some pretty bright light to deal with, but there is a lot of jpeg artifact showing around the bird. Drop me an email if you like and I'll help you out. :toast:

As Charlie mentions it would help to know more about your work flow. Do you shoot raw or jpeg? Do you use Photoshop or something else? How much of a crop is this? Did you use any noise reduction on it?

Unless the image is crammed with fine texture/detail (like trees with lots of leaves) then 200Kb is quite adequate for a 720px image. This image has been compressed to only 128Kb.

Thanks, everyone. I shoot RAW, download and preliminary adjust in Lightroom, export to Elements 6 in TIFF where I do final editing. I think that the problem is in the resizing for posting here. I'm trying to follow the guidelines by 1)Setting at 72 pixels/inch, 2)width at 720. What I then find is that file size is way over 200kb. I try to overcome this by reducing JPEG quality, sometimes as far as 9. I think that this is the source of the problem. Thanks for any help.
P.S. About 50% crop, Noise Ninja used.
