Been focusing on an area within ten miles of home - mostly out of necessity. Opportunities to get further away just aren't possible. But it's a good challenge to make the most of what you have. This is a "snapshot" (on the move - no tripod) taken after work while out with a friend who was geocaching.

I do a lot of local photographing around my San Diego home and I too have found it challenging, but very rewarding when you find natural beauty right where you never expected it. Your photo looks like you have some wonderful landscapes to work with. I would get back there soon and spend some time working with it. I do like this pic with the clouds and side lighting hitting the hillsides. Would like to see the green area in the lower left corner cropped out - too distracting. Good find and good luck!

Looks like some a-holes with 4WD or motorbikes are ruining the landscape. Looks like a nice place to shoot.

Almost all the texture in this is natural (for now), as the ridge lines are slowly healing from ATVs. The rain and snow from winter helps heal some of the tracks. This area is a battleground between naturalists and the off-roaders. A friend's recent attempts to protect the area failed. It gets less use in winter, but in a few months it will be completely tracked. Maybe this should have been posted in a different gallery, comments welcome.
