The past several days, I've been working on a calendar containing educational material for our congestive heart failure patients, and used this image for the cover. One of my dining room tulip buds.

This is awesome. The water drop on the top is a great accent and really helps complete the image. Very nice.

Kathy, nice comp...the jewel-like droplet is a crown! The soft tones blend together with the smooth lines. I don't know if you were interested in noise reduction to smooth out portions ...selectively....it might work here. Congrats on a great cover.

Kathy, Absolute perfection. If I were to gin up a nit, it would only be that the drop of water is not more prominent. I would love to see this image with a drop of water sliding down the Tulip.
Kathy, this is really lovely. :toast:

Kathy:
Very nicely done. Lovely soft side lighting, muted colors, delicate texture and water droplet supported by a tripod at the tip. :toast:

Very pretty Kathy. I tried some tulip bud shots tonight and they did not come out this nice. I like it.

Very graceful image, and that water drop takes it to another level. Excellent work.

Kathy, I am really enjoying your photo. There are so many things to admire: the design of all straight and bent lines, the playing of lights, the attitude of the shy young gay, its water cap, the movement in the composition. I love this very natural image.
Cheers.

Wonderful diagonal flow to this, Kathy. The water drop is a real eye catcher.

Very nice capture Kathy. The thumbnail doesn't do this image justice! I like the sweeping curves. Is the camera straight up or did you tilt it to get the angle? Just curious. I often tilt mine to give my captures a more diagonal composition. I am not always a straight shooter. :toast: I like the jewel at the tip of the blossom bud. Very nice compositional addition. :toast: Very nice use of natural window light. Any use of a reflector for slight fill?

Wow, thank you everyone for your comments and compliments. I have SO enjoyed these tulips and have learned so much just experimenting with different compositions and light.
Steven, I did tilt the camera to get the diagonal for this. Guess I'm not a straight shooter, either  I almost always tilt in one direction or the other to get the compostion I want. The drop I added with a medicine dropper. I did use a reflector. I almost always shoot in mid afternoon for these, and the light comes in over my left shoulder, so I usually reflect a bit of light back from the right. I've had a blast with these. Kind of like you and your Irises. Been shooting pink and yellow this week. Have you done anything with the yellow iris yet? Looing forward to seeing it.

Kathy, I just invested in a twin pack of medicine/eye droppers, and yes I have been "playing" with the yellow Louisiana Irises. They are purdy and a beautiful yellow hue, but not as purdy or colorful as their purple or blue-purple cousins. I see a session with a mix of purple/blue-purple, yellow and white Louisiniana's in the near future. The yellow variety has yellow petals with yellow throats. I like the purple ones with the yellow throats. Both have been or are double blossomers. The yellow ones don't seem to have the stress marks that the purple ones had, but that might be a one time issue with the nursery or delivery.

I may post an image of a purple iris in a more senior moment with droplets of water, courtesy of my newly acquired eye dropper.

Sometimes I use a reflector, sometimes I don't - a slant on the Peter Paul commercial.

I agree, it is all about the tilt! I think quite a few of my friends would tell you that I am not often a straight shooter, which sometimes gets me into a pickle, but that makes life fun.
