In the same deep desert where we found the Sora, Charlie pointed out this bird on a natural perch for me. I was absolutely delighted to get a couple of frames of this "very much wanted" bird before it flew off. Many, many thanks, Charlie! I had missed all the ones he had in San Diego earlier.

1D MkIV, 500mm + 1.4X, 1/2000 @ f11, ISO800, later afternoon light, tripod. Manual fill flash at -1/16.

Thanks for looking; c & c please.

I like to think that his one flew back for you as repayment for the $$$$ I spent on seed for these guys. This turned out just perfect considering you were pretty much running with your camera. Looks like you were ready for him. Excellent. :toast:

Great photo - can't believe you had to go to the desert for these when Charlie had them in his back yard all that time. Good choice of DOF to maintain focus from beak to tail

Terrific! When we get them here in AZ they won't pose low and clean like this for me. I'd love to have this.

Another sweet shot KC. Great lack of noise for ISO 800 and that darkish BG. Nice use of fill flash too. Well done as per usual.
