Ibex in Caucas sunset

Its a picture what I took a few year ago on a mountaineering trip in russian Caucas mountains. As a sun was setting down a caucasian ibex male walked onto a little ridge next to our camp. It was a spectacular moment but I didnt really have enough experience and equipment to take a full advantage of the situation. Still, I was really pleased with the result at that time and I still enjoy this picture.
I used an analogue Canon EOS 100 + sigma 70-300mmf5.6 APO handheld.

Very nice image. It looks like you had some tricky lighting to deal with. Thanks for sharing.

What a spectacular scene Andrius! I really like the distinct separation between Fg and BG in this case as it suits the lighting situation. The center placement of the ibex works in this case IMO due to the tringular shape of the mountains leading towards the subject. The lighting situation was not that tricky really, the only thing is that you should have exposed for the BG only to prevent the snow from being over exposed. I have not enough experience with processing film nor scanning to tell you whether it is still possible to 'rescue' the snow. Despite that this is a great photo. :toast:

Great color and perspective. Looks like the mountains could be just a little sharper.

Hi Andrius,

Well, perhaps you didn't take "full" advantage of the situation, but you did pretty darn well! I'm enjoying this picture right now and can definitely see why you continue to enjoy it! I agree pretty much totally with Vincent's appraisal so I won't repeat him. But thanks for posting this and I truly envy the experience!

Cheers...

Brad

And you must be pleased of this. my only point is about the over exposed snow. Scanning it twice, one for lights to be darker and one like this you can try and blend them together. beside, to me this is great shot.
