Fractured

I'm no geologist by any means, but this beautifully fractured rock captivated me from the moment I saw it. I hope it does you as well. Please excuse the compression, I had to save it at 3 to get under the 200kb limit! Please view the larger image for better detail (but it suffers from compression as well since I had to save it at 5).

Awesome abstract, Bill! Mother Nature just never ceases to amaze me. What an intricate, and ornate pattern of amazing colors.

Awesome! Any idea what created those incredible colors and structures? Would love to see this without all the compression!

WOW, this is great, Bill. The mix of colors really makes this an interesting abstract, along with all the arteries too. Someone could almost confuse this with a map of the freeway system here in So Cal.

That's really cool, kind of Jackson Pollock-ish! Might like to see a crop without the gray line in the urc, but awesome either way.

Wow! What a find, it's really eyecatching. Only one small nit: in the larger version the upper right corner looks a bit soft, but I really can't tell if it's a compression issue or a dof issue.

Wonderful abstract nonetheless, I really love all the colours and intricated paths.

Bill,

Very cool, it's one of those images where everyone who studies it is going to come away with their own interpretation of what it is. Looks like a space photo of a desert to me. I can hear " Major Thom" in the background.

I love it, Bill! The patterns and colors are amazing. I never took any formal Geology classes either but am so fascinated by the topic that I read extensively about it. Rocks are a library of the history of the planet.

The frame filling array of craks definitely tell a story of pressure and resistance. A very unique and beautiful photograph. I like it a lot.

I love the comp and patterns--very cool!
Being picky, i would prefer to see a bit more overall sharpness. The large version is soft on the sides, and thats not a compression issue since its not uniform--its a focus/dof issue. Ive had the exact same problem with my Canon 70-300 (which is why i want a real nice macro!!)
Very nice overall! :wavey:

Wow, this looks quite amazing. I have never seen something like this. Fascinating how such "dead" matter can be present in every kind of shape and texture.

Bill,
I am a geologist and this is really nice. Looks like fractured limestone to me with calcite infilling the factures (?). Would like to see this in a bigger context to get a better idea, but regardless I like this a lot. I'm also looking that this from my laptop (stuck in jury duty today). Definitely something that would get my attention.

This is beautiful. Awesome colors and patterns here. Great find! If I could choose though, I would have worked some more DOF, closing further than f/11, but that´s a matter of interpretation and personal taste :toast:
