I was on the Isle of Mull at a place called Pennyghail on the west of the island. I watched this red deer stag for a while and manged to get quite close to him and get this picture.

Canon 50D, Canon 500mm f4 lens, beanbag on a rock. f4, 1/500sec ISO 320

Great shot! He looks like he is wondering what the heck you are doing laying in the grass with that big white lens. You must have hands of steel to hold a 500mm steady. It is such a special treat to be in the company of some of our wild friends. You are a lucky man.

Ron:
I like the looking over its shoulder gaze, low POV and BG. Excellent capture.

Great pose, composition and exposure. IMHO it might be interesting to crop this vertically or even tighter to reduce some of the blank sky, just to see what it might look like. I really enjoy your deer shots. Thanks for posting. Hope to see more.

Good job here, Ron. I like the shape of this pose, but I see it often enough with elk as the final look before they exit that I have come to wish for other options in my attempts! I like the exposure on the deer, the detail of the eyes and the contrast works well against that unusual (to me) colored background. My only nit, and it is minor, is the brighter area to the right of his face. If mine, I think I would try to selectively darken it just a touch.

I lilke the way the foreground is blurred, which makes the deer stand out with its sharpness. However, two things are a little distracting to my eyes: the oof trees on the horizon, and the bright ?rock to the right of the deer's face.
