Keep on digging

Well, it looks like I had left unprocessed an entire folder from last year...
This is another "Sunset in Valsavarenche", taken from exactly the same vantage point of my previous post of this very same place, just shot about 30 minutes earlier.
The Valsavarenche is a steep and narrow valley lying at the feet of the Gran Paradiso, one of "giants" of the Alps with its 4061 meters of elevation.

Details: Eos 50D, Zeiss Distagon *T 28mm f2,8, some GNDs...

Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.

Paolo

This one is on a whole other level from the previous post. That one wasn't bad, but the conditions and color on this one are incredible. 30 minutes made quite a nice difference.

Wonderful image, Paolo! I love the mountains and the sky, but the light reflected on the snow is awesome too!

Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous mountain scene. The color and light is magnificant! The bright orange light on the clouds against the blue sky is very strong, and contrasts wonderfully with the soft pinks on the snow. Very nicely composed. Top shot!

It's a remarkable location and some beautiful light, but I don't see in the image a clear/decisive composition that helps it stand out. Other commenters seem to be seeing it and liking what they see, so I could just be me.

Ehi, thank you all fellows for the many and thoughtful comments on this image. Kent, you're totally right, this is doubtlessly a tier-2 image of mine, and that's probably the reason why I waited almost one year before processing it. This is actually one of those shots such as "OMG, look at what a wonderful light up there!" and then you turn around and can't find anything as much groundbreaking to cope with the amazing light show in the sky. Oh well, you cannot always rush a home-run, right?

Prashan, mine is not actually the new ZE, but rather a very very old Zeiss-Contax lens, one of the few lenses I kept from my old Contax system of my film days. However, it's - along with my Zeiss Planar 50mm f1,4 - by far the sharpest lens I own. I do believe the new ZE version is outstanding as well, although it's hard to believe it's better than mine (as an old Zeiss mktg dept slogan says: how can we improve over perfection? )
If you're thinking about some Zeiss lenses, I strongly suggest you to look for some used Contax lens. the 28, 35, 50, 85, 35-70, 28-85 are all great lenses capable of delivering outstanding performances despite their 20-30 years. A used 28 f2,8 in good shape sells for about 200-300 $ on ebay, have a look and if you find it, don't think twice and get it. With a 10$ chinese adaptor ring it will finally bring every single pixel of your camera sensor to life...
