The Awakening

A recent capture from a trip to south, with a quick overnight in Bishop. Storm clouds were clearing in the evening, but I didn't get there in time to shoot, so I had do make do with the softer morning light.

I know this location is well covered, but I still feel that Sierra wonder whenever I watch dawn break across these peaks.

Thanks for comments and suggestions!

Cory, the colors are striking. I like the compression here also. A real bold image with the solid red rocks up front and the huge monolithic mountain in the background. Well done!

Very nice Cory! The light on the peak make the image and I also like the juxtaposition - an interesting combination of red rocks and snow covered mountain.

I could "make do" with these kind of conditions anytime! Nice foreground with the rocks and trees too, it's a slightly different angle of this classic E. Sierra peak than we see all the time and I really like it.

Beautiful Cory! Stunning light, and one of the nicer compositions from this spot I've seen lately. I like the rock wall.

This is gorgeous! One of the best images I've seen from this area. Beautiful light, and I love the FG you found.

No need to be apologetic, of course it's well covered Cory, that's why they put the pull out with the giant camera symbol there (decades ago) so everyone knows they should take a picture. I'm in the group that doesn't stop, just fires the point and shoot out the window while moving. The gorge really emphasizes the Wheeler Crest formation on the right. 5 shots, you might as well shove it on the back of an RV  Love panos!

I wouldn't apologize for shooting this - anyone that passes up shooting this scene, with the beautiful snow covered peaks and that amazing light and sky is completely jaded. This is very nice!

Oooh when I was there I didn't get a chance to scout around first. I really dig the FG you found. Beautiful work, Cory.

Very elegantly presented as the composition relies on color to give cohesiveness. A great capture, Cory!

For those of us not familiar with this area, where was this taken? What mountain is this? Very beautiful shot!

This is gorgeous! Sweet light and great clarity - almost looks 3D. Superb. My only nit is that the large version is the same same as the posted version. I was really looking forward to seeing this bigger!

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Amy - this is Mt. Tom, seen to the west as one drops into the Owens Valley near Bishop, CA. It's a little hard to spot, just one of the chunks of rock those poor Bishop folks have to look at every day....

Bill - thanks for the observation. Actually, they are the same image. I didn't know there was a 200KB limit on the image upload, as I usually just link to the image on my website. So, I reduced my original post, and didn't make a second larger one. I'll do better next time, promise!
