Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4x TC, Handheld.

1/3200, f/7.1, ISO 400; Aperture priority, evaluative metering, -2/3 EC

Crop to 59% (10.6 of 18MP)

Leaving the pelicans for now and going back to the shorebirds, here is a Semipalmated Plover from Puerto Penasco, Mexico.

I like the active pose and intent look here.

Comments and critiques appreciated. Please view larger version if possible.

Another nice low angle, Brian and perfect focus. I don't know if you're into cloning, but I think the bird would pop better if that dark area in the beach weren't so unfortunately placed behind the beak. Nice light in this one. :toast:

Really like your low angle Brian and the inquisitive look you appear to be getting from the semipalmated plover. I personally do not mind the dark area and like the original post best. Nice work on the exposure in challenging light too.

I am not a cloner, thus I like the original best, but you did a nice job removing the dark area. I like the light here and the great eye contact with the bird. Nice detail in the larger image. Techs look good. Well done.

Nice sharpness and detail and I like the pose too. Personally I do not clone but I will admit on first looking at the photo I definitely noticed the merge of the bill with the dark spot on the BG and the cloned version looks better.

Brian:
Nothing constructive to add to earlier comments. Just adding a vote for the repost because of the better view of the beak. I like the low angle too.
