American Wigeon

I haven't been able to make it out shooting too much lately, so here's one from last spring about this time, taken at a local park (Titlow Park in Tacoma). People feed the ducks here so the mallards and wigeon are quite habituated to people. This one came in for a close look even though I wasn't feeding them. This is over 90% of FF, just a sliver taken from the top.

I think this was a good choice for a crop and and the water is super sweet

Lovely portrait, Nate. By the time our Wigeon have run the subsistence hunting gauntlet to Alaska, they're far too spooky to come this close.

Very nice detail and composition, for me looking at the larger image it is interesting to see the close up detail of the wigeon's face, way to go.

Nate, very nice portrait, interesting reflection and I think the brown tones of the BG compliment the bird. Did you get any of the whole bird? Nice work!

Thanks Bill, yep I've got dozens of the whole bird, flying also. I thought this was a little different and it was my favorite.

Nate:
I really like the color of the water as BG for the Wigeon and the outstanding detail in the bird.

Very nice. I like the nice light and the beautiful iridescence of the green feathers on the head. I also like how the colors of the water and the bird match up.

Incredible detail on the bird Nate, and the color and slight ripple patterns in the water truly make this special--1/640th too. Perfect comp.
