Volcano Steam Plume

Last year on a trip to Volcanoes National Park, HI - I was excited to see magma flowing into the sea. Unfortunately, the magma flow was blocked by a small hill dried lava, and closer access was not allowed. All you could really see during the day was a huge steam plume. However, as it got darker, the base of the plume lit up with some fairly surreal colors, and the long exposure required smeared out the steam plume nicely. I used 2 exposures - one for the sky, and one for the black lava foreground, which actually has a lot of detail in a larger print.

Just for comparative purposes, I am also uploading this image which was taken about a half hour later.

Incredible sight, Daniel. The textures in the steam cloud in the upper images is very nice.

Nice drama in both Dan, The glow in the second is really something and the crashing waves and wild plume of the first grab the viewers attention. It would be nice to somehow combine them all into one shot. Somehow, some way it's got to possible.
