Winter Lenticular

Image shot in the northern San Luis Valley in Colorado. I was attracted by the amazing cloud, and being shot in mid-day light I envisioned it as a B&W.

Nikon D700
Nikor 17-35 AF-S f/2.8 at 17mm
RAW processed in LR2 and CS4
Nik Silver Efex Pro for B&W conversion

Cool shot! Good choice for the BW. Placing the mountains at the bottom gives the cloud a vastness that works well

Great cloud, perfect BW tones. I like that you included a good bit of sky above the cloud.

Good choice to convert to b/w. I love the comp with the mountains at the bottom and giving so much room for the sky. Great cloud.

Stephan,

The B&W was definitely a good call. It is amazing how the cloud almost dwarfs the mountain range.

Nice! I'd crop a bit off the left to center the cloud

Steve... I really like this image...it successfully conveys the vastness of the landscape. However, the lenticular cloud and the snowiest mountains are also of great interest so I think a tighter crop, using the same ratios but just to the top and sides of the lenticular cloud and the mountains also would work very well.

Cheers, Reed
