This buck knew something was not right, but didn't know what. Love the the whitetail deer. It was late afternoon on a sunny day.

The light worked against you here. It seems harsh. The shadow behind the deer pulls the eye away from it which doesn't help either. What I love about the image though, is the excellent light on the face of the deer. Good find!

Another great buck shot Jack, I really like the lighting.

This is a good deer with light at a decent angle to give you catchlights and not too many shadows. Maybe a lower camera angle would have been better and it for sure would have put the antlers against the evergreen foliage without the stick/branch intersecting. On my monitor it appears there is a slight color issue...I see a tinge of green on the sides and back of the buck.

A solid image Jack. After Lon's comment about the branch in the BG intersecting the antlers, I cannot stop noticing it anymore... Apart from a lower angle maybe a shallower DOF would have helped a bit too.

A nice looking buck. The light looks pretty good to me and it's a nice pose. I agree with Lon that a lower angle would have made it a better shot and perhaps helped with the distracting branch going through the antlers. You also could have left a little more room for his feet. Did you shoot this from a blind? You have a lot of nice white-tail shots. Were they taken on your property?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I thought this type of shot was marginal, and that is what it is-marginal.
Robert, A lot of my best whitetails come from riding the roads early or late, but I do have a rancher friend that lets me photograph on his property. No walking around allowed.
