Of the diving ducks, the Lesser Scaup is a favorite. The drakes always appear so cautious, yet confident and IMO look like they go about their day with an attitude!

Beautiful image Craig. The light is awesome, in particular in the larger version. IMHO a 500mm lens would have done a better job...

I like the cocky pose Craig and the eye certainly adds to that effect here. The duck is just too tight for my tastes though.

Craig,

Love your great low angle, the purple sheen on the head and the beautiful look at the eye of this duck.

For me I'd like to see more room on the right and above the bird if you have it or if this is not a large crop pull this in tighter for an imtimate portrait of the bird's face.

I can see why the Lesser Scaup would be one of your favorite diving ducks.

I like how you captured light on the head to show the wine color. Wish you had the whole butt, but still a very nice image

Great shot Craig. I agree with the others on the tight comp and would also add that the bill looks a little overexposed on my monitor. It doesn't look blue to me. But this is a quality image and you nailed the exposure on the head, which is usually the tough part. :toast:
