Moonrise over San Luis

Another one from frozen San Luis Lakes in south central Colorado Friday afternoon; the last rays of sunlight illuminating the Sangre De Cristo Range with its 14,000 ft peaks, and a crack or fracture in the frozen lake surface. I took a couple shots of the moon at a longer focal length, but an enlarged moon would have looked silly here, so i 'downsized' a 100mm version and substituted it for this 28mm version--gives the moon a lot more detail at full scale. Not that you can see any of that here...Everything else is pretty close to the RAW, just a classic high-and-dry valley sunset.

Very pretty Stan, I prefer this to last version you posted. I like the less dominant foreground ice formations as well as the graceful light providing a beautiful foreground accent to the background peaks. Well done!

Very nice Stan, great light, colors, and lots of wonderful elements here. Getting the moon in the comp is a real nice bonus. Well done.

The light really makes the mountains jump out and I also like the bit of direct light on the fg ice. Great scene! Maybe just an illusion, but the horizon appears to be tilted a bit.

The light on the distant mountain is awesome. I like how you used the sunlit spot in the foreground for your comp. Great shot. Thanks for sharing

I think this is great. Love the light on the foreground ice, snow and then the mountains really set it off. The moon looks just right to me at that size. Great work.

That nice warm light on the mountain with the darker cloud behind provides some wonderful contrast! The light catching the texture in the foreground and defining it is superb and the moon adds a nice finishing touch!

This is great! Some sweet light and the moutains really pop. I am slightly distracted thinking this needs a tiny clock-wise rotation, but it could just be the lake shore. Love it though.

Gorgeous light on the mountains and foreground Stan. The sky provides a nice backdrop to the beautiful scene. Magnificent winter scene.

very nice, stan! everything is so smooth here, since colors to light. the moon adds a lot here too, imo. I like how the fracture is iluminated by that very subtle light and color. nice work.
