Savute, Botswana. one male and two females were resting under the shade of a mopane.
I like the symmetry and the fixed sight that still caused a shiver along my spine.

I tried different cuts, but to me this is the better way to represent it.

D2Xs - 70-300 @200 f 4,8 -1/400 iso 200 PP in camera raw-0.35ev light,contrast,saturation tuned in CS3

C&C welcome

Considering the lens you were using, I'm thinking he was thinking about lunch. What a great face on this lion! Sweet photo Luca!!!

This is a very intense portrait Luca and besides those scary eyes it is the symmetry that helps to make it a strong image. Did you try a B&W conversion with more contrast? I suspect that could work well on this image. I do notice that in the larger version the image looks a bit soft. This could be due to your crop (you did not mention how big a crop this is). in any case it will benefit from another round of sharpening IMO.

Luca, great portrait and love the intesne stare, I can totally imagine this causing a shiver down your spine. I do agree with Vincent that this might be a prime candidate for b&w with some more contrast. Thanks for sharing! :toast: :toast:

When I saw the picture, just thought that eyes were looking lazy and then read your commentry. The tight close up sits pretty in the frame. I too find the larger version bit soft.

Hi Luca,

Very, very intense - it's exceptionally easy to see why you had a shiver along your spine! Those scars all over the face tell a story (or many stories!).

I like this shot as posted, but have two minor suggestions. First, on my monitor (calibrated) the image looks slightly too cool - I think bumping the warmness a little would benefit the image. Second, I find the white hairs of the chin [i]slightly;/i] too close to the bottom of the frame - if the image were mine (and if there's room below), I would add a little more space on the bottom (but very little).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I like the symetry here. This is a strong portrait. I think this would work well in b/w. The image looks a bit soft to me.

Thank you for the feedbacks.
@Vincent:this is about 66%of the original.
@Vincent/Jorne/R.Bill:yes I've thought to a B/W conversion but up till now my tries didn't satisfy me.
@Brad: indeed yo have reason about the white hairs to be too tight to the frame but i had to cut out a branch and this is the maximum achievable.By the way I push both sharpening and saturation a little bit.
