Pallisades Birch Stand

A birch stand that can be seen from highway 16 in Jasper National Park. I wanted to show the blueness of the Pallisades that stand behind the trees to contrast with the reds and oranges of the fall leaves. Birch stands are a common favorite and I think this pic mught be a bit ordinary, but it is still one of my personal faves

I like the contrast as well between the leaves and bg. Good choice on what to include in the comp. :toast:

This is a really nice intimate, Laura. I might be temped to raise the saturation a bit; but if this is the look you're going for it totally works for me. It's actually a nice departure from the norm. I like the lead in fg detail, the repeating birch trees and the distant cliff bands - it all flows together very nicely.

Looks like you're new to NPN. Welcome!

I'm also in favor a slight saturation increase, especially in the yellows to increase their contrast with blues in the background. I almost wish there were more of the blue to make it a more prominent element in the scene.

the details in the trunks is great. The leaves don;t have quite the warmth they need to effeictively contrast with the blues of the mountains. A selective increase in the yellow saturation would help

A little saturation would make that birch bark jump right off the page but in reality I love this shot as it is. I can't wait to find this birch stand when I'm back to the park in the spring. Great shot Laura

The lines of these birch trees together with the layers of foreground, the trees and the far mountains really makes this a super image. As others suggested, a slight bump in saturation, especially in the yellows, would help make this a stronger image. Beautiful image and welcome to NPN and the ESS gallery.

I'm with Tony on this one. A little more of the Palisades and a slight boost in saturation to the warmer colors. I really like the image and I don't find it at all "ordinary". Really nice photo, Laura.

Aspens always make potentially good photos.
This one has many possibility both in croping and rendition.
Nice capture.

A beautiful stand of trunks! I note too that the aspen leaves are a bit dull, but I wonder if that is partly a function of our strange fall in Alberta? Near Calgary, many aspen leaves did not change colour but just browned on the tree. These look a bit like that to me, which would explain why they aren't the usual brilliant yellow. Very nice image.

Thanks gentlemen and Samantha for your comments. Samantha has pegs the color of the leaves being more brown and orange than yellow. Our fall came and went too fast last year! :jump:

Well composed, especially the stripes of form and color from foreground to background
