Mammoth Hot Springs

One of the only good images I took during my fall trip to Yellowstone in 2009 due to the warm weather and clear blue skies. Took this image at the top of mammoth hot springs. I really like the look of these dead trees in the springs.
I kind of feel like something is missing in this shot, but I dunno.
Any opinions?

Great shot! I struggled in that location to find a composition I liked. You really nailed it. Nice job.

This is a nice portrait image Jonathan and sorry the weather didn't cooperate. Maybe sunrise or sunset light would have helped add some drama.

I think centering the tree causes some conflict between the tree which I assume is the main subject with the beautiful background. I think you have to pick one or the other. Or set the tree to one side to contrast the two. Hope this help. PS I have the exact same picture somewhere.

Jonathan, I would love to have a shot like this. Haven't been to Yellowstone yet. Maybe just slightly off centering the tree or seperating both trees from eachother might. Still very nice the way you captured it.

I really like the colors in the background. Comp also seems to work with a scroll crop of the sky.

I think your comp is spot on, Jonathan. Great colors, too. Perhaps early morning or late afternoon light might have offered a more dynamic appearance. Still, a very fine image. Congrats!

I like this one. It has an interesting composition with good colors and effective layers.

Jonathan,

Great photo. It grabs my attention. But like you I to feel like someting is off. THe one thing that does bother me is how the FG tree and BG tree seem to merge together. If they were offset I think this would be much stronger.
