The Cassin's Finches arrived today. I didn't get any decent shots of the males but this pretty little girl posed very nicely. Taken with the Canon 50D and Tokina 400mm 5.6.

Clayton, I like the comp with the habitat and nice BG. The bird's curious pose is nice too. The bird's face looks a bit soft.

Thanks Ron. You are right about her face. I went back and checked my AF point and it was low, closer to her chest. I was composed on her head on the previous shot but when she stretched her neck up I didn't adjust.

Nice composition and background. Good things come in small packages.

Clayton, I like the pose a lot, and the bg is nice too. I agree that the bird looks rather soft.

This is actually a House Finch--a female Cassin's would have much crisper streaking on the breast and a more well-defined face pattern.

I also think this is a house finch. I like the alert pose, the inclusion of the pine and the bg is lovely. Sharon

Clayton,

I like the perky pose of this little finch and the tilt of her head. There is a touch of softness to her face, another round of selective sharpening in that area might help. I like your comp and the habitat in the image.
