Beware of Dark Places!

Land Iguana, Galapagos. Photograph taken on January 20, 2008.
I was lying on the ground pretty close to the iguana.
This is probably the only place on the planet that you can do this. These animals have never (at least, not for a very long time) been harmed by man. Therefore, they have no fear of us, and you can sit right next to them without disturbing them.
The big contrast in light over the subject and its surroundings made this shot possible.
Nikon D3, Nikon 70-200mm, f/8.0, 1/250, ISO 400

Would appreciate your thoughts.
Kumar

I love the dramatic lighting for this "monster" emerging from the darkness.

The square format works well, although I'd leave a little more room in front iguana than behind it.

The Galagagos have been on my "to-do" list for a long time.

Great shot Kumar, very appropriate to the weekly theme. The larger version is really good.

Excellent details & beautiful colours, Kumar! :toast: The black "frame" emphasises the iguana well.

Kumar,

This is a great submission for this week's theme and I love how the darkness acentuates the "dragon" so well!

I think this would have even more impact with a touch more space in front of the iguana and a little less behind it, but I like it as posted too.
