Endless Mountains Sunset

I moved here to the Endless Mountains region of northeast Pennsylvania in June of '08. One newfound pleasure is watching the Sun slide down behind the hill out the kitchen window while lying on the livingroom couch.

This was taken last June out in the big backyard. There were lots of buttercups to practice on. I'd never been very happy with my previous attempts with them. I've stopped mowing (of course) and more wildflowers are making their appearance. I've been scattering and planting native wildflower seeds too, and I'm eagerly expecting new arrivals this year.

(If you tilt your head to the right does anyone else see a poodle out for a sidewalk stroll?)

Charles,

No luck on the poodle. I like the spider and the flower but I'm not sure about the echoing pattern in the bg. As usual it's an interesting image and I'm enjoying contemplating it.

Charles: One of the great joys of my life is having a garden right outside my door. I'm looking forward to your offerings this year. The BG stuff Pat mentioned is a bit of a distraction but I think the subject and party crasher carry the day nicely. Nice find superbly captured.>=))>

Sounds like a great backyard. The no mowing is esp nice. Good capture here, Charles, but no poodle for me, either.

Okay, more info from my imagination (thanks for the comments, BTW). The two bright bands are the sidewalk and the stem with the bud atop is a lamppost at the corner.

Really nice, Charles. The BG is a tad distracting but not overly so.

I'm scratching my head trying to understand why people find the background distracting. I guess I can see it a bit, but the meaning it has for me overpowers that. The image is a pretty good approximation of what I see when I look out to the west in the evenings. The dark area in the lower left corner is a shadowed hillside, and the bright bands are the Sun's rays and they lead back toward where the Sun sets at the bottom. The hill isn't quite that steep but it's not too far off, and the scene is a familiar one to me.
