Olympus E-3, 300mm x 2.0 TC, tripod
f5.7, 1/320, ISO500

Photo taken on the Caribbean side of the Central Cordillera in Panama, about 15 miles fro El Valle. This bird was a lot of work, including a long, steep hike back out afterwards. Late afternoon light. I'll post a photo later of this species' back which is equally attractive.

Cropped to vertical.

C & C, please.

Nice Jim. This is a great looking bird. The bird looks pretty sharp in the larger image and I really like the comp andthe BG. A little NR on the BG might make this a bit stronger image but I like it as posted.

Looks like all the work was worth it. Real great bird and a nice photo of it. I like that the head follows the line of the perch, and the tail breaks up the composition

A fine comp Jim and a great looking bird well exposed. I'd add some NR on the BG to clean it up a touch , add some USM to the face and might..and I mean might..consider cropping out the big leaf on the far right.

quite a bird, Jim. A nicely composed shot also. I'm not bothered by the noise, but I do think just a bit more sharpening on the head might help. :toast:

Lovely image Jim. My only reservation is about the half leaf on the right.

Another very interesting looking bird, Jim. I understand that this one is a flycatcher. However, I don't believe that the reason for the two elongated tail feathers is known. The perch and pose of the bird and the colors are very attractive. It may be a little dark. Also, I'd be tempted to include either the whole leaf or none at all in this case. I know that excluding the leaf really eliminates almost all trace of habitat. However, it may be an appealing option here. :toast:

Very nice Jim, bird and background! The way the leaf is truncated by the frame edge leaves me wondering if a bit wider vertical could be worked out to show the entire leaf. You sure have the right idea going south for some awesome bird photography at this time of year. :toast: :toast:

Jim,

I'd be pleased as punch to have this image in my files. The only thing I would do is selectively sharpen the head a smidge more.

What a gorgeous bird!

I like this a lot Jim. The half leaf bothers me not a whit - you had a lot of comp challenges here with that tail esp, the leaf and probably wanting to show detail on the bird. IMO you've handled it all perfectly. The slight noise doesn't bother me. Do wish for slightly more sharpness on the head though.

Very cool bird, Jim. I like the detail and background. You are building an excellent database of birds from central America. :toast:
