PLEASE VIEW LARGE VERSION! I don't normally say this, but I think it's essential with this photo.

Taken over President's Day weekend at first light. I was on an ice climbing/snow-shoeing/xc skiing trip and decided to get up early one morning. Glad I did.

Adirondack Mountains. Keene Valley, NY

Oh man. This is a good one. I love the contrast of warm, direct light overlayed onto the cold and shady BG. If I had to offer any criticism, Id suggest exploring alternate crops, by trimming some off the top and maybe a little from the sides. I'm not sure if it would be a benefit or not, but this comp feels slightly loose to me, and could possibly be honed some more.

Unique perspective. My first reaction thought was intimate detail, but then I saw the trees and realized the scale of things. Impressive image.

Nice shot, Elliot. The warm colors work sow ell together with the ice. As for processing I wish there were a little subtlety in here. Maybe try to use better masks, like Tony's luminosity masks.

The light touching the trees is beautiful together with the shaded rock and ice. I'll second the crop and processing ideas suggested so far.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that my processing lags behind much of the work here on NPN. I have to work on that. I agree that this image could benefit from some of Tony's masks. I will play around with alternative crops as well.

Bizarre image Elliot and I mean that in a good way. Lots of layers and lines in this one. Nice light on the trees and an interesting composition. Thanks for sharing. Michael

Indeed, very tricky on the eye when judging the scale. One of the coolest images I've seen lately!
