WC #419 - Faux Fumarole

Well ... somebody had to do it. So I figured it might as well be me.

This of course is the iconic hoodoo and tree in Zion, with a fortuitously shaped and strategically located cloud. I just happened to be passing by last November and thought there was potential for something a little out of the ordinary. In the interest of full disclosure, I did clone out some clouds in the lower right corner. I cropped from the top to get the 4x5 format. I posted this mostly for fun, and because it fits the theme this week. I probably wouldn't otherwise have posted this in this gallery or in the ES&S Gallery.

What, good enough for here but not ESS?? Should be the other way around, Jim
I took some shots of this tree on my Zion trip 2 yrs ago but not this past year--you're right it would take special circumstances to tempt me. Great subject tho--and i like your presentation here. 4X5 works fine--i think square might even be stronger. Thanks for sharing!

We should have a weekly contest for images with just this tree.
It would be fun to see all the variations on this theme.

Nice catch.

I would be tempted to crop out all of the clouds. It would make a great shot.

Hey, don't forget there is a reason why subjects like this are so popular. Still looks great, and the cloud makes it even more interesting. I wonder if you could have gotten somebody to pose there like they were making smoke signals.

Love the title and the image, Jim. I've also photographed this little tree but never came away with anything even remotely as cool as this. Nice work!

Wonderful and entertaining image. What great fortune that all the elements came together as they did. Why not post it in ES&S? What am I missing? Also would make a good greeting card wouldn't it? either as is as a nature shot, but also could be humorous, too. "Fuming mad" comes to mind... Darn tree oughta quit smoking! Great shot. Shouldn't be hidden on a hard drive someplace, so glad you got it out for the WC Theme at least.
