Dan,

Unreal, especially at just 300. The detail and lighting on the eye is rather impressive and the pose is just great. The only suggestion I have is more of a pano crop vs. the squareish crop you have presented us with.

Wow, very nice, and as Luke said, at 300mm. The details are great as is the bird's position and the colors. Really nice. I wish I could get this close to any raptor let a lone a golden eagle.

The repost is fantastic! I've been trying to chase one here recently without much success!

Amazing to get this close to a golden Dan. Nice timing with the takeoff too.

Great pose Dan!

I prefer this as originally posted but with a touch more space above and in front of the bird, the pano version feel tight to me.

Love the great look at this bird's face and those amazing talons.

There is a thin halo around the bird. This often appears in images with sky backgrounds. When you resize this if you select bilinear instead of bicubic then mask the bird carefully before sharpening it often eliminates or reduces the halo effect.

Thanks for all the nice comments.
Nate, the image is about 90% of full size. Mia, I have always used bicubic sharper because it says "better for reduction". I am having trouble with halos lately.

Golden eagle in flight, not a shot you see too often. Fantastic detail across the face and the talons clearly visible add a lot.

Wonderful flight shot of a beautiful bird, usually not willing to cooperate with photographers.
Congrats.

A terrific image, and more so at only 300mm.

I have always used bicubic sharper because it says "better for reduction". I am having trouble with halos lately.

I only use the basic bicubic option when reducing image size as you have no control over the sharpening that it does by default. I much prefer to leave my sharpening to the last step before making a jpg, and then apply it selectively on a separate duplicate layer so I can control it even more with a mask and with the opacity slider.

Dan,

I wasn't referring to bicubic sharper, I said when you are resizing resize using bilinear instead of the default bicubic, it will make a difference in images where the bird is against blue sky or images where the background is very similar in tone to the bird's plumage.

I had an image that had no halo after conversion to jpeg, but every time I tried to resize it a halo appeared before sharpening or any other processing. Rich Ditch suggested using "bilinear" and I tried it, then there was no halo on resize. I now use bilinear instead of bicubic resizing when there is sky behind the bird and have no problems with halos.

Awesome Dan, right down to the eyes iris. I love the movement of the feathers and tail as well as the feet positioning.

Wonderful post. I love the pose of the extended pose of the bird, especially the talons. For me the repost is a bit tight in comp. Overall the contrast seems to me a bit flat in both posts, but not a huge deal

Must be lovely to see these birds in the wild. You've done really well to capture the Eagle with such detail. Graham

Excellent in flight (or take off) eagle shot, the detail around the head is great. I like the original as posted. Great job getting this image, a pleasure to view, way to go.
