LOOKING AT YOU KID!

It seems like I've posted nothing but bitterns lately, but that's what I've been seeing and they are a favorite bird as well. I like this different pose and straight on look. I had the F stop set high so I was disappointed with the DOF and was able to do some some sharpening on the end of the beak, which was OOF.

Thanks for looking, Larger version available

You obtained sharpness on the main points of interest, Craig. Also, your shapening managed to define the bill very well without artifacts. You have a very unusual image.......it really piques my curiosity trying to figure out what I'm looking at. Fine job. :toast:

I would love to see one of these and I love your portrait. They look quite comical like this, don't they?

I can't imagine getting this close to a bittern Craig. Simply can't imagine it! Love the eyes in this presentation and the asymmetrical head plumage. Agree that more DOF would have been an improvement. Boy, do I have empathy for your comment regarding posting "nothing but bitterns lately". Probably 90% of my posts this winter have been of only two species. Can't wait for the spring influx of migrants...

I don't know how you are getting so close to this species, but once again, another cool close-up and an interesting view of the birds face.
