Gadwall

I have always found that Gadwalls are hard to approach but I finally had an opportunity last week at Sweetwater near Tucson. The reed floating on the water in front of the bird is unfortunate but I love the fine markings and the beautiful scapulars on this duck.

Thanks for looking and thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Shame about the reed Hans, but you couldn't exactly wade in and move it. I also love the intricate markings on this species.
I like the slightly open beak :toast:

Hans,

The beauty of these birds is such a pleasant surprise. Great detail and the open beak is pretty sweet. A little tight on the back and of course the OOF veg going through the frame isn't ideal.

Such fine details. Love the water color and little wake. The reed is unfortunate but nothing you could do about it. Love the slightly open bill.

Gorgeous feather detail here Hans. I'm not crazy about the swimming "away" factor but looks like you got him just in time

Love the colors and the details you caught on the drake Hans. Hate that reed across the image. So how're your cloning skills?
