I was canoeing on Obed Lake, Alberta when I came across a couple of minks at an abandoned muskrat den. This guy was very interested in the canoe.
Gear: Olympus E520
f/5.6 @ 1/180sec
ISO 400

Really neat shot of this Mink. We have them in these parts but they are few and far between and extremely reclusive. The photo you posted is only 500 pixels wide. . . could you post the maximum (720) as a comment which would help in evaluating sharpness and details? Thanks :toast:

Based on my experience photographing minks (which is absolute zero) I would say any picture of a mink is a good picture. I wish the mossy rock or whatever it is didn't block part of his head but nothing you could do about that.

I agree with others that any picture of a mink is an accomplishment! I like the colors and the detail on his face. This is just fine as posted, but I would experiment with crop. In this case, I would try breaking the "rule" about centering the main subject and try taking a little off the bottom and left edge, deliberately put the face (or nose) center and let those interesting colorful rocks add the compositional tension.

that is one cute looking creature !
agree with lon, a more intimate crop with greater emphasis on the face might look good.

Great shot, Jonathan! I like the curious face looking under the rock. Very nicely done. :toast:
