Would be so cool to fly hah? An ID would be appreciated as I'd hate to assume they are Mallard. I caught these just as I was wrapping up the shoot of my first Kestrel. 2 great gifts in one day. I love that.

Really nice shot - I'd love to have a 300mm 2.8 paired with a 2X! I've never seen this species before (well, at least not knowingly) and the golden light is a real nice touch

Yes, Cheryl, a pair of mottled ducks: female in front, male in the back. You can tell they are mottled ducks because they have no white on the anterior portion of the speculums and the sexes can be distinguished by their bill colors; male's solid yellow to olive bill, female orangish with some spots or blotches. Females also tend to be smaller than males and the difference is great enough to be useful for ID while they are flying. Nice shot.

Great shot Cheryl! The drab sky and the beautifully lit ducks make this an outstanding composition. :toast:

The golden light and the wing position being the same for each duck makes this work nicely Cheryl. Sounds (and looks) like you had a great day!

Cheryl,

I agree on the mottled duck ID and how Ron explained the differences in the genders.

I like the golden light on the birds, the comp and the almost identical wing positions. Very nice flight shot & sharpness.
