Kenmore, Torridon, Scotland.

Even on a grey winters day this must be a wonderful position to site a remote highland cottage but finding one freshly painted in white with a brilliant red roof, proved picture postcard perfect and an irresistable photo opportunity. The sun was just off axis and with careful shielding of the lens I was able to make the most of this almost backlit scene the sun causing the verdant green grass to glow enthusiastically beneath a suitably interesting sky.

Please view LARGE.

Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, Polariser backed off 50% and 0.45ND grad, Velvia.

Large or small, this is great! How soon can they move out where I can move in?

Wonderful Ian. Light and shadows are just perfect. This looks like a challenging exposure handled well.

I hope that you got a property release. Having done so, I think that you could
make quite a few sales of this scenic as a post card as well as in many other
ways. Well done, Ian.

At the risk of sounding hypoctitical (since i just intentionally left strong highlites on my latest post) i find the bright urhc a bit harmful here, would have preffered a .6 or even 9 grad, but otherwise this is a super shot, the mix of green/red is killer and the water is just a great addition.

Hi Stan

I understand the thoughts that the top right is a little bright but it is very much in keeping with the scene as viewed, the brightness of the sun and angle of view was extreme enough to cause you (the viewer) to squint and I really enjoy keeping that aspect within my image. To go heavier with the grad would have appeared false to my eyes. I did take other images (see attached), with a narrower field of view and a vertical comp which kept me further off the axis of the sun the result was to hold much more detail in the sky but overall I prefer the first version I would be very interested in others views though.

They're both nice but I prefer the second. I wish this is what winter looked like around here right now!

While the upper right is a tad bright, I prefer your 1st post since the little fence / cage is not touching the edge as in the second. I love the colors and light on the ground cover and the little house provides a nice contrast to it. The first version has a bit more landscape to take in (the trees on the right). Anyway, beautiful work Ian.

I think the comp of the upper image is superior Ian, and I understand taking an image that is true to your eyes. A wonderful place and a wonderful capture, congrats on the EP.

Sigh… I just love your images of Scotland (Ireland too). I like both of these a lot Ian, but have to say I think the 2nd one is a little easier on the eye. I do admire your ability to keep close to way you saw it given what much have been a tricky exposure. It's postcard perfect, sure enough.

I remember passing by this cottage..and wondering how quickly I would move into this place for my retirement. And that was in a horrible dull day! :)
