This photo was taken at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge in Washington State. It was captured at ISO 400, f/11 @ 1/80 of a second using a Nikkor 70-200 VR f/2.8 with a TC-20E III Teleconverter at 400mm. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Ray,

I like the pose of the heron, and I like the setting.

I don't think I would have used f11 here though, closing down some to f7.1 may have given you a nicer feel to the background and a bit more shutter speed. At the size posted the head looks a smidge soft, perhaps due to the slow shutter speed?

Hi Ray. I agree that a smaller F number would have given the background more of a blur.
You seem to have lost some detail in the whites, so I'm guessing the light was rather harsh?

Nice plumage on this individual. Your exposure looks good on my monitor Ray. I like the bits of new grass, adds a little bit of spice to the image. I see you jumped on the new 2X teleconverter, if it lives up to early reports it should add a lot of functionality to the 70-200 for avian photography.

Great comp, and I too like the green grass among the brown. Nice details too. Good shot!
