Winter Eastern Bluebird

With all our snow and ice, there's not much in terms of bird action right now and when I've had the time the sky has been overcast. Nonetheless I just had to get out yesterday and play with my new 1D4. I was hoping for Eagles at the river and got a few high key flight shots but thought I'd post a "bonus bird" to show a large crop and high iso from the 1D4. I have very few bluebird photos where the bird isn't in heavy brush so I was happy to get this although I would sure have liked it better if it had come in closer. C and C welcome.

1D4, 500f4+2.0x, 1/800, f 8.0 + 2.0EC, iso 1000, about 40% of original

I really like the perch/bird together. I also like the simple background and small bird in the frame. I'm not too sure about the amount of negative space above the bird and perch however. That new Canon camera looks like a great photo making machine.

Keith

It wasn't until I opened the large version of this that I felt the full impact of the image. This is very lovely, simple & appealing.

I like the high key effect, the perch and the brilliance of the bird very much here Keith. For my personal taste I would have liked to see more of the perch and the bird a little higher in the frame. :toast:

Really lovely image Keith - really like the simplicity and the colour of the bird against the plain background. Could you crop a little off the top and still retain the 'lonely' feel of the bird against a vast background?

cheers

I love the capture and the natural perch but may I suggest a little off the top?
