It was quite entertaining watching this little bird wade around a local slough. I liked the soft light and symmetry of this quiet moment.

Hi, Russell - great to have you here - welcome!
Nice detail!
Not sure about the vertical crop - feels to me as if it needs more room in the front and to be less centered, so a traditional crop might work better..

Russell, very nice feel to this image. I believe this shot needs a horizontal presentation with the bottom cropped just below the reflection, less room over the bird's head, more room out front for the bird to move into and pretty much leaving the right side as is. Also, please feel free to comment on others images as that really helps you develop a feel for what is good and not so good in avian images. Cheers.

Nice capture with the reflection. The crop feels very tight. Definitely needs more room on the left to allow room for the bird to walk into.

Thanks for the comments. Yup, I agree it would be better horizontal with more room left and right. That trailing wake is interesting too. I shot this vertical because there was a really nice reflection above the bird that just didn't materialize. This was a compromise attempt to save the shot. This is a great site - lots of good conversation.

Agree with more room on the left, but for this particular photo with trailing wake, I like the centered implied horizon. If you take some off the bottom, I would match it with an equal amount off the top.

Nice light and sandpiper Russell. I do agree with the suggestions you've got about the crop though.

Great reflection but may I suggest a little more room to the left if you have it?

Beautiful reflection and pastel colors here Russell, I agree it might be better presented as a horizontal. :toast:

Russell

I am late to comment, agree with the others about the hoizontal crop for the Great Yellowlegs you have presented. In your repost I think there is just a bit too much water behind the bird, not quite enough in front of it.
