Brown Pelican Portrait
by Brian Gatlin
Canon 40D, 100-400 at 360mm. 1/2000, f/7.1, ISO 400. 100% of full frame.
My 7D returned today--they found that the AF assembly was incorrect and fixed it--hopefully I'll get to test it this weekend! In the meantime, I've been working through my files. This is a pelican portrait from Feb 09 at Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico. Only an hour across the border, on the Gulf of California, it's a great location for Arizonans looking for seabirds. I particularly enjoy the pelicans--great poses, great colors and textures. I like the detail and the pose on this bird.
Comments and critiques appreciated. Larger version has more detail.

Good luck with your 7D. Nice to know that there really was something wrong with it!
I've never been down to Rocky Point but think about at times.
Looking forward to seeing your images with the repaired 7D!
