A nice pair of shovelers there Sue. The details look a bit fuzzy and overall the image is slightly soft on the monitor I'm using here at work.
I think It could use a bit more sharpening and some curves adjustment to brighten it up a little.

Always nice to get a pait of shovelers in your view finder Sue. I think your shouuter speed (1/50) hurt any ability to get really sharp on this. Looks like you didn't have any light to shoot with.

Nice to see the pair of males together. I agree that it looks like you just needed a bit more light but maybe a higher ISO would have helped too.

Sue,
I agree that the image looks a bit fuzzy and the birds aren't very sharp, I think the slow shutter speed is probably the culprit. If you are shooting in aperture priority and have auto ISO turned off you could have bunped this up to ISO 320 and gotten a faster shutter speed, probably fast enough to freeze the action.
One of the other issues is loss of detail from over-compressing the image. The file size I am seeing using a Safari browser is a mere 39.3 kb, which is very small. Compressing an image to that size does cause loss of detail. You can post up to 200 kb for the 720 pixel sized image

I am always impressed by the feedback I receive when I post. I am still very much a fledgling bird photographer and it is a big challenge to get it all "right'. I take your comments seriously and will keep on trying to implement them when I shoot. Cheers to all of you......

I'm really enjoying the motion blur here Sue, like the composition and the colors of the birds and the water BG. Was already mentioned about the shutter speed and ISO, but otherwise, love it.
