Pygmy Owl

Seeing Kwan's Great Gray Owl got me to looking through my archives and inspired me to post this little guy. Our local weather hasn't been overly cooperative so I also haven't been out with my camera... sigh..

This is from a few years ago when this Pygmy Owl was on it's way to becoming a local celebrity - we don't many of them locally.

Canon 1D2, 500 f4, ISO 200, 1/100, f10, FF -1 2/3, cropped a little and cloned out the flash catchlight beside the one from the sun.

This is fantastic, Ed. I like the look back, the lighting, and the DOF gets the whole bird sharp. Nice one! :toast: :toast:

Gorgeous, Ed. The bg works perfectly with the coloration of the owl and this species just about defines "cute". I'm not sure if it's real or my eyes, but I seem to see just a very slight bright halo at the top of the head. It could very well just be a trick of the high contrast in that area. :toast: :toast:

Ed, this is stunning. The DOF is super. The colors are just so rich and the head turn is perfect. I love the feel of this image. Very well done.

Gorgeous, Ed! I remember this bird. There were a couple show up at this spot last year, but none seen this winter.

wonderful light, very nice head turn and bg. I agree that it looks like there's a bit of a halo on top of the head. This is a beautiful image. :toast:

An excellent image of this little owl Ed. I love the look back and your unusual lighting. I also see that light line on the top of the head but I'm not sure of it's origin. Neat shot and quite unique, esp with that background and pose.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone.

Some of you've mentioned seeing some sort of line or halo at the top of the head. I haven't done anything to the image other than what I described so all I can think of is that it's an effect of the high contrast between the feathers and the bright BG.
