Electrifying

I took the original image over the weekend, just as the fog broke. It was my first attempt at trying to capture the sun/fog/tree combo, and the flare in the original is a killer. I couldn't fix the flare, so out of curiosity I applied the fractalius filter and got this "electrifying" image.

Way cool Rob. I'm not into photo art but this looks very interesting. Good job keeping your options open.

Woah...Large version is a treat.

Q: How do you keep a stoner occupied for days?
A: Put this on his wall.

Rob,
Oh yea! The larger image really rocks. Reminds me of the "Mother Tree" scene from Avatar. Very 60's and yet very current. Well done! :toast:

Thanks for the comments. This is the first landscape image of mine that I've liked the fractalius look. Marc, now that you mentioned it, I can see the "Mother Tree"; perhaps that is what is resonating with me about this image.

The frac filter is addicting

Exactly! And addictions are rarely a good thing
The good news is that good results are usually worth the effort, and in general i think you got a good result here. The filter wouldnt work well if you didnt chose your subject wisely, and had a worthy subject and well balanced comp to begin with. The problem is, as i write there are literally tens of thousands of 'fractalius' addicts feverishly applying the filter to their photos, so you end up with many many pieces that all have the same 'look'. They get old real fast, especially to the sauvy buying public. The solution is to use the filter in a subtle way, or incorporate it in a piece with other effects. Avoid the obvious. Believe me, i was like a kid in a candy store the first time i played with PS fonts--you know, all the awesome tricks with shadow and beveling you can do. But you end up with a result that, even though it feels real satisfying to do, is close to kitsch  Not saying this resault is--in fact i really like it! Just giving you a word of caution

Great way to save an image, Rob. You just need a few fairies underneath. :toast:

Okay, Rob, I found the Fractalius Filter. This is a darn good application of it! Love the sunburst flare in there, too.
