Check below for a repost.

Despite the wintery appearance, this was from the middle of July in Bugaboo Provincial Park. It took about an hour of scrambling and non-technical climbing to get up to this vantage point from that lake, so despite the appearance, that lake was a long way down.

I was somewhat liberal with the adjustments during the raw conversion as I wanted to highlight the filtered light, but beyond that there's not a whole lot of post-processing that was done. There are some concerns I have about the end result, so I'll be interested to see if anybody mentions them, or if it's just something in my head. Ideas for a title would be welcomed. As a note, those trails along the top were from sheep or goats, not humans, hence the placement in ESS.

I've just recently added a Bugaboo gallery to my website if you want to see more of my shots from there - it's an amazing landscape. I'm moving Down Under on Tuesday, so it'll be a while before I get to see mountains like them again.

I haven't been participating here for a while, but this has pulled me out from the wood work, so to speak, and force me to comment. This is phenomenal -one of the best photographs I have seen in a while. I am mesmerized!

Like a liquid jewel Kenn, just magical. Overall the snow looks just a little dark to me (mostly I wish the mid-bright portions were just a little brighter), and the orange colors in the reflection look a little unnatural (I think because they're darker?). If you selectively take the saturation down on the orange, or shift the color balance a little, I think you could keep that reflection dark and contrasty without raising too many flags. Also I see a little haloing on the LLC along the darker rock. I hope that feedback is helpful - it is a truly wonderful image and interpretation. Man I'd love to go to the Bugaboos, glad you got a good last trip in before moving south.

Very intersting, and unusual image! I love the blue color of the visible water. I like everything here except the shadow protruding in from the top.

Fascinating in the very least. I don't know how I feel about the kind of heavy and dark look, but I can see how it is in some ways a product of the high contrast within the scene. As it is, I think the portions of the image containing reflected highlights are my favorite, and they make me wonder about a possible tighter framing. If things were to be opened up, I think the rest of the ring of pools would be equally enticing. It certainly keeps my attention, even if that can partially be attributed to my affinity for the subject.

Weird looking Kenn - and very good. I wonder what causes the rainbow colors on the water - almost looks as if it was contaminated with a fluid of different density.

Kenn--a truly unique photograph. I like it very much! I too notice the haloing in the lower left corner, but this is okay if you like it or easily fixed. Good luck in Australia! Why the move?

It's probably just me, Kenn, but I don't understand what I am looking at. Reading others' comments and continuing to peruse the image, I could finally sort of get it. But it makes me feel frustrated...

From Canada to Down Under? Wow, that'll be different! Can't wait to see your take on the landscape there! Best of luck and safe journey.

That sure is an unusual and fascinating landscape, Kenn. The liquid has a gel-like look to it, and the way it's glowing creates a lot of curiosity... escpecially the section with the different colors and bright white outlines. It's a little dark around the edges, and as you pointed out it's hard to judge the scale of it, but it's an intriguing photo. Best of luck with your move from the freezer to the oven.

Unique and beautiful Kenn. It took me a moment to connect to it, but once I did I liked it even more. Those fascinating blue pools and rainbow colors are so nice.

Here's an updated version based on your comments. I was expecting that the darkness might be an issue, as well as the haloing and the shadow up top. If there's still something that needs improvement, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks for all the great feedback.

To address some of your questions:
The orange colour is from the direct reflection of the sun behind a cloud. I agree that it's a little unusual looking, but it's a pretty accurate rendition of how it looked in person.

Moving to Australia to begin grad studies, and see if I want to move there or NZ permanently in a few years.

Catherine, if you check out the first image in my Bugaboos gallery on my website, you'll see this same lake from a different, lower perspective that should help give you some context of what you're looking at.

man, I wondered some seconds threw the comp to first figure out what was I looking at, just for that, thumbs up. I like what´s not obvious and you must understand that we don´t have snow or even mountains like these around these parts, so I took some seconds to first get the hole scene. this rouse of curiosity is great. I´ll go along with floris, repost looks much better. that reflection is great too, adds a lot to the comp, imo. very fine image.(thanks for the sugestions).

I'm coming to this a little late, but feel the repost is a definite improvement. This is a hard image to decipher, and like Bruno, I like that.

Very different, and very cool. I didn't find it hard to understand what I was looking at . . . reminds me a bit of the "Frozen Lake and Cliffs" image by Ansel Adams for that reason. Some folks get it quickly, others have to look for a minute. I prefer the repost.

Nah, Jason, this is just some unnamed lake, much smaller than Cobalt.
