Fallbrook Falls

Found out about a new 35-40 foot waterfall (new to me) within 10 miles of my house so I just went out today for a quick look. Real pretty, but there was just no safe way for me to get down to the bottom... and as always in PA, too many dang trees to shoot it from above in the front. This is from the top of Fallbrook Falls going down. Very overcast day and the blue ice is really beautiful... this doesn't do it justice in color... and that patch of ice is actually about 20-25 ft. down. Shot holding the camera w/ one hand high above my head, even at 6'6" couldn't get it down enough and tripod wasn't nearby. ISO-80, probably should've upped it but was kinda hanging on... 1/125th, and f-4.0. OK enough excuses... hopefully the next round I'll have a partner and I can get what I really want. Thanks for looking and any C&C!

Interesting shot Bill. I can understand the conditions too. If you're looking for a hiking partner for eastern PA, I'd be interested. I live in Hamburg PA

I admire your effort, but I think you should come back and have another go at these falls if you get a chance. As it is now, there is too much out of focus FG, and kind of an indecisive, chaotic composition. The ice and raging water look like they could make for a very powerful shot.

Bill,
I LIKE the wild OOF water in the FG. Make this look kind of dangerous, and it sounds like it was. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing it in better light, and a more "controlled" exposure. But be careful!

Makes me feel cold and wet.
Can't honestly say that the out of focus water and dirty snow really appeal to me, but it looks like a good spot for a return visit.

I think this has some nice potential. This one first of all looks a little under exposed. Also, I would use more, or less dof. Right now the foreground just looks out of focus. So I would use a longer exposure to soften the blur even more. If you can get into a better position. You might try a different perspective. The little twigs, and grasses are a bit distracting on the right. You could also consider a clean up with the clone tool. Good Luck!

Nobody could accuse you of getting formulaic with this one. That's for sure. Just a boost to exposure could improve this while you're waiting to get another crack at this location.

Lots of good suggestions so I won't reiterate. Agree lots of potential at the location, though it also sounds quite tricky to negotiate. Will be interested to see future work from here.

Thanks all for the commens and suggestions!! :toast: Yes, this one was really just an impromptu scouting mission to see what the short climb would be like because of my neuropathy--not too bad I don't think, very steep but not too long. So I just posted one that as I said, obviously needs work--"formulaic" not, right??!! It looks do-able for me so I'll be back there and get some better I hope. Thanks again for the C&C&C.
