Yosemite Autumn #8

Thanks for everyone's comments on my digi entry last week. Have no fear though, it's not too likely I'll slip away from my 4x5. That is unless somebody out there would care to donate a few grand to get my camera of choice... any takers?

I thought I was done with my autumn images from November, but all this frigid, white and frosty stuff recently has me longing for the warm tones of fall. Nothing to original here, but a favorite black oak of mine in El Capitan meadow with some nice back lighting. A wee bit of Orton to enhance the glow and some TK magic and I think this mid-day image came out pretty good. Would love to hear your honest thoughts.

Chamonix 4x5, Nikkor 210mm, V100f, f/22 @ 1/8s

Thanks! and Happy New Year everyone!

Lon

Wonderful shot Lon, I love the contrast between the bright leafs and dark cliff in the backround.

Well done,

Of course, with colors like that, you can't go wrong Lon. But, you want honesty, and you've set your bar pretty high with your Yosemite Oak images... I find the composition a little less focused than most of your work - I like a little more simplicity in the composition, which you get have typically accomplished with a stronger focus on trunks and branches. This image seems to be just about the mass of (beautiful warm, gold, and inviting) color. Happy new year, and hope it brings you some more productive trips!

Another beauty Lon! The glow and color are excellent. You are the Yosemite Tree Man for sure. You'll have to show me some time where the best trees are in this area.

This is the time of the year when it is good to try something different, especially with the new year and all right? So how about a little trip down to the coast and try your hand at seascapes or coastal abstracts. It is really gorgeous right now and closer than Yosemite for you. Plus I can take you to my 'secret spots.'

Think about it. Hey maybe we will get Reno and few others together for a meetup at Garrapta or Point Lobos.

Beautiful image, Lon. I rather like the composition of these beautiful and inviting colors. The touch of light on that golden grass also looks great to me.

Very nice, Lon, as always! IMO, Orton has killed way too many fine photos, but fortunately you were restrained in its use here

I cannot imagine any better detail than this, Lon. You are trying to tease us with some great autumn shot... Yes, it makes me love autumn, but winter still leads for me.
You sure know how to capture the majestic beauty of Yosemite. Looking at your image makes me feel like celebration of life, beauty and this park... great work!

Mid-day? Doesn't feel mid-day. Feels totally Overacker, though. I really like the wall-of-color in the foreground and the way it's framed by the wall of rock behind.

Love the colors, especially the blue wall in the background. Thanks for the warm image. As I'm writing this it is -18 F degrees outside.

This is another gem, Lon. There is a quiet and stately majesty that comes across very strongly.

One of these days I should head over to Livermore to see some of your prints in person.

Lovely autumn shot Lon. The backlighting really highlights the foliage, and I like the strong contrast with the dark trunks. I think your images have inspired me to take a trip to Yosemite this year... Nice work.

The fall colors against the muted granite background are spectacular!! This probably needs to be seen huge to do it even more justice. Great image!

The beautiful strong colors and color contrast male the shot, I love the cool blue hues of the background, against the golden tree colors.

Wow, Lon, this is a nice dense chunk of golden color even for Yosemite.

I like how the right edge fades off into darkness!

I like this one a lot Lon. Might become a favourite. Yes, nothing really special, but captured and presented with such a high quality. Particularly I like the contrast between the warm foliage and the blueish rock.

I like your tree! It looks even better with all that golden back lit light filtering in through the fall leaves. Nice job controlling all the highlights that must have been there. Mid day magic :toast:

Hi Lon, thanks for the welcome to the forum. This has a stunning feel to it with the tree shape and strong rock structure behind. From my perspective I would be interested in seeing this in b&w with a touch of Infrared. I bet this looks great on the lightbox.
