Cascade Creek

A small waterfall along Cascade Creek in Marin County, California. This spot is located along the short (1.3 mi.) but spectacular Cascade Canyon Trail, which features nine waterfalls of between 25-75 feet in height. This a much smaller cascade that caught my eye because of its pleasing setting and the soft sunlight in the background. All comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Canon 5D, 17-40L at 28mm, f/16 for 8 seconds (ISO 100) with a Singh-Ray warming polarizer; a second exposure at 0.6 seconds (ISO 200) was blended in to provide some texture in the water.

Very nice result for this shot. The texture of the water works very well.

Good exposure on the water. The moss looks a bit over sharpened to me.

I'm really missing summer now. Beautiful, lush greens and soft light. The blend worked perfectly. The FG rocks anchor this really nicely. Good work, Phil.

I like it, Phil. Looks like one of my favorite gorges here in Austria. The moss is wonderful - especially up there where the leaves sit on to of it.

Phil, I enjoy everything about this. The composition is outstanding as all of the elements really come together nicely. The color is also very rich and vibrant and it comes alive with great clarity. I can't think of anything that would improve this. Great work!!

Well composed. The combination of overlapping green semi-circles really complements the shape of the small cascade.

I think this is one of the more aesthetic cascades I've seen from this area. It does look very lush, and clean(uncluttered). Not an easy thing to compose in these forests. What season was this taken? Very nice!

Beautifully composed waterfall image. The falls are well framed by the moss and fern covered rock. The trees in the background add a nice vertical element. The lighting is perfect. Well done.

Phil,

Beauiful light. When did you take this? I was on the trail last Saturday with a worksop client, but it started raining on us pretty heavily and we had to cut our work short and never made it to any of the cascades.

Youssef, this was taken on Tuesday (12-29). I got a bit of rain that day as well, and this was the only sunny moment that I happened to notice after about 11:00.

Just realized I made a mistake with the name of the trail (Cataract Canyon) and creek (Cataract Creek) . . . rather than Cascade Canyon/Creek. Very embarassing! Not sure how I confused that. Anyway, thanks for the comments so far.

Lovely scene Phil. I love the detail of the ferns clinging to the moss covered rocks. Nicely balanced. Great image!

Beautiful light and comp...love the ferns, especially to give it some scale. A couple of nits are 1) that it seems a little flat in the shadows on my monitor and 2) a little oversharpened in the moss and rock detail.

Great shot! :toast:
