I took this photo in Yellowstone Park in December, 2009.
D90, 300f4, iso 640, 1/1250, pattern metering, overcast sky and natural light.
All comments appreciated, honest constructive criticism requested.

I like the pose with the crossed legs and the eye. The post processing looks a bit sloppy - I think you used the sharpen brush instead of masking the coyote and using smart sharpen or unsharp mask. Otherwise this is great and I wish I had it in my own files.

Dan,
I like the pose and the snow on the face. I always enjoy the coyote shots, because at least for me, coyotes can be a difficult subject.

Hi, Luke. I added a soft vignette, something I haven't done before. I hoped it would draw attention to the coyote. Thanks for the comment.

Nice pose! And you managed well the contrast between the snow and the coyote. There is some noise in the dark background.

Really nice image Dan. Great pose and excellent detail. I like the image a lot. I would probably reduce the noise a touch in the dark bg. Perfect for my tastes other than that.

Hi Dan,

A very different and unique pose (those crossed front legs in particular), but one that certainly attracts attention. I really like the exposure of the snow and background, but if the image were mine I'd selectively (and carefully) brighten up a few regions on the coyote itself, specifically the head and back of the neck regions. When I look at the larger image I think that with a little more selective sharpening in the head region you might be able to bring out a little more detail.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

I would apply some noise reduction to the background immediately surrounding the coyote. Brad's suggestion of some selective sharpening makes sense, too. I really like this pose and think with some careful processing you have a wall hanger. Excellent capture!
