Mountain Bluebird

I am fortunate to have Mountain Bluebirds nesting near my home. I took this image in May 09 when the crabapple was blooming. I liked the combination of colors. The background is pasture.
Nikon D40, 70-300vr at 220 mm, f/8, 1/400 sec, pattern metering, overcast sky, natural light, taken from a blind.

Wow, what a combination of wonderful colors, beautiful bird and perch and nice pose Dan. The clean green background works splendidly also. A sliver more room on the left for the tail might have been my preference but to coin a phrase, composition is often purely personal. I love the image.

Doesn't get much nicer than this Dan, pink and blue!!! You could likely add some canvas on the tail side to address the concerns over not having enough room there. I recently read a comparison of a variety of prime and zoom Nikon lenses at 200 mm, the 70-300 fared extremely well and this photo supports that.

Beautiful image, perfectly balanced colors, exposure, composition.

I love Mountain Bluebirds, because their appearance in Western MT means you're about done shoveling snow for a few months.

no doubt about it--this is a first rate shot. wonderful sharpness and colors, a great perch and bg too. For me the comp is just a little tight on the left hand side, which is a nice problem to have: with this bg it should be easy to add a little canvas even if you don't have the room in the original. very nice! :toast:
