My Tree has a Fungus

On our way to Ojai we took route 33 and noticed it was still very green for this time of year. We came across this area that was very damp and noticed this tree with large fungus growing from its truck. I thought it looked quite odd but also beautiful at the same time. I used a Canon XTi with the kit lens, 1/160, 10, Evaluative Metering, with an ISO of 200, hand held in RAW format.

What a cool formation. I look at this and see all sorts of different recognizable shapes. If willing, I'd suggest to burn/darken the tree and b/g to really set the fungus apart from everything else.

Nice comp, John. I agree with Greg's recommendation to darken the BG just a bit to really bring out the fungus. You have some nice angle of light on the mushroom. :wavey:

Your tree has clearly been out in the rain too much  The mushroom is quite bizarre but it has a beautiful brown colour. And it looks like an octopus to me. Great find and good job!
