Here is the same GBH as my previous post, this time coming out of the water with its catch. I took the recommendations for more room at the front on my last post, and I do like it better. Glad it was a shot that adding canvas wasn't too hard. Thank you all for your C&Cs.

C&C welcome and appreciated.

Very fine capture, Doug. Normally there would be a tradeoff to consider between cropping more to show more detail in the bird and cropping less to allow the whole reflection and ripple pattern to show in the image. Since this is full frame and the bird pretty well fills it, there is really no choice to be made. However, I think that this would be the right choice anyway since the detail and color are really great. :toast:

Look at that stab! Grea action - nice and level with a cool reflection making a nice X through the image. I think it could benefit from some brightening, or maybe a curves adjustment for the contrast.

Excellent timing and detail. I still think a bit more room on the left would be a bit better. Not bad as presented though.

Great action, Doug. Excellent dof for that f-stop. The heron seems just a bit soft to my eye. :toast:

A beautiful, but harsh look into the natural world. .

Great capture of the action. Was this hand held or tripod/monopod? either way it looks good, just curious.

John, it was tripod mounted.

I would have preffered a bit more room all around the heron, but it happened so fast that I was probably lucky to get what I did. And it is probably a bit soft as I did no sharpening. Thanks for all the C&Cs!

Doug, I like the action in this a lot. I have a couple of these shots and you are correct...just getting it in the frame is noce, because it does happen very fast. What I think is unique about this is the depth of the water. Every Heron shot I have or have even seen is always on the shore. This looks like he is in deep water. Very cool! Also, I think the comp looks great and don't see a need for more room.

Wow. That bill is stabbed right through the fish. I have not seen a heron do that. Great timing. More room on the left would be nice but not an image killer at all. What a sense of nature in action!

Doug, nice capture. It is always exciting to see a heron stab a fish like this and you did well getting this in the frame.

Doug,

How great that you were able to capture this heron stabbing the big fish like you did. love the flared wings, eye contact, how deep the heron is in the water and the action in this image.
