Quiet Light

Inspired by some of the great "starscapes" I've been seeing lately I decided to give it a try this past Saturday.
This image is composed of 2 sets of 2 images. The first set of images (one for the top and one for the bottom) were taken about 20 minutes past sunset and the second set of 2 (again top and bottom) were taken about an hour after that.
The first set was to expose for the landscape - 15 seconds, f/16 and ISO 100. The second set was to expose for the stars - 10 seconds, f/3.5 and ISO 1600.

If you look closely, you can see the Big Dipper in the sky and reflected in the water. This pond here is actually a cold water spring. The water remains at 6.5deg C all year long. The lighter area at the bottom of the frame is one of the underwater springs.

This one is nice, Tom.

I like the technique and processing here.

This is the best I have seen from you.

Don't recall ever seeing Yamnuska from this point of view. Cool shot, Tom. It's interesting from top to bottom, though I find myself particularly drawn to the lighter area at the bottom.

Very beautiful shot! I love the blue cast and the reflection of the stars in the water. However, i think my favorite is what you can see in the water at the bottom of the image. Great job Tom!

Neat combo of images. I like the vertical pano. I like how everyone keeps pushing the envelope on these star shots. The dipper reflection is pretty neat and totally in sync with the image.

Tom, I really like this photo. The simplicity is appealing, then you see more as you focus on the detail. Nice design.. This is a very creative process, makes one want to try to do it at home.
