Spent the day searching through the bosque near Clark (dry) Lake in Anza Borrego State Park as part of the Christmas Bird Count. The Phainopeplas were out in full force.

This is a really cool species and you did a great job exposing it. Dreamy pastel BG

Great pose and detail in the blacks Charlie. I'd be tempted to try to tone down some sections of the perch a little.

cheers

Excellent image with good detail & BG. If I were to get real picky I'd wish that thorn wasn't clipping the tail.

nicely exposed blacks and a great pose with the open bill and spread tail. I like how the white in the wing is showing too.

Beautiful, Charlie! Looks like your CBC was a very much drier one than ours here yesterday!

Great exposure Charlie. The BG is nice too. I might try and tone down the perch just a bit if this were mine. Very nice colors and image overall.

Fanned tail, beak open, crest obvious, wing slightly spread - can't beat that pose in my book Charlie. Exposure looks great, beautiful eye and excellent background. Not much more you could ask for IMO. Hope you had less wind than on your desert camping trip last winter (at least I think it was last winter...). I also hope you bagged your Le Conte's while you were there.

One of the best shots I´ve seen of this species. Great perch, detail in the blacks and the open beak are all oustanding :toast:
